Margaret Kirkland Interiors is an award winning residential design firm specializing in timeless, classic interiors.
Kirkland’s classic, elegant interiors develop from the structural assets of each space. Seeking inspiration in the home’s architecture, scale, and natural light—and often in the client’s favorite object, color, or work of art—Kirkland designs rooms that incorporate both the home’s innate character and the client’s spirit and lifestyle. One of her greatest pleasures as a designer is to go hunting in a client’s storage for old treasures that can be repurposed to give them new life, while also bringing the client’s personality directly into the space. The results are sophisticated refuges that imbue their modern comforts with a subtle sense of history and timelessness.
Prior to founding her namesake firm, Kirkland worked in New York and later in her native Atlanta with Dan Carithers Design Consultants. Over the course of fifteen years in the design industry, she has completed projects including residences, high rises, showrooms, spas, country clubs, and even an interior design pop-up shop in Northeast Harbor, Maine. Kirkland has worked for clients throughout the United States—including New York, Chicago, South Carolina and Atlanta—and also on several international projects. Past projects have included the complete renovation of a historic plantation, the transformation of a small carpentry workshop into a three-bedroom guest cottage, and updating a farmhouse located in France that had been expanded and modified over several centuries. The privilege of being a part of the rich and evolving history and character of these homes stays with Kirkland—informing her sense as a designer that great homes are ones that are both fresh and enduring.
Margaret Kirkland Interiors has been published in multiple magazines including Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, House Beautiful, and Southern Living. Kirkland has been awarded the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center’s (ADAC) “Rising Star” Award for interior design, named a “Next Wave” designer by House Beautiful, and named best "15 under 40" by Atlanta Home's and Lifestyles Magazine. Kirkland is a member of the Southeastern Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA) and the Designer Network for Coastal Living and Southern Living Magazines.
